A Place for Fun
Through prayerful planning and the generosity of our donors, this coming November, we are launching Tamarisk Community! Our prayer is that for young adults transitioning out of foster care, our Tamarisk Community House would be a place where they could feel known, be given opportunity, experience rest and refuge, and have fun, restorative experiences.
One often overlooked aspect of foster care is the absence of fun childhood experiences, like playing sports, going to amusement parks, attending birthday parties, or engaging in various hobbies. This is typically due to financial constraints, unstable placements, and the focus on basic needs rather than leisure activities. The lack of experiences can cause feelings of deprivation, low self-esteem and social isolation.
Along with our weekly Tamarisk Community dinners, we also plan to host monthly social events, many being "experiences" for our young people. This will look like game nights, movie nights, playing putt putt or Top Golf, going go-karting, to museums, and even taking a trip to the beach (some youth in foster care have never seen the beach!). And we look forward to celebrating many birthdays and holidays together. Our desire and prayer is that our young people could experience the fullness of life. We also pray that they could experience healing in the parts of themselves that may have low-esteem, or feel deprived and/or socially isolated. And ultimately, our greatest prayer is that they would know the God of John 10:10, which says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
How You Can Help
As we prepare to open our doors, we need your support in three key areas:
Volunteers: We’re looking for people who want to give their time and talents to this community.
Prayer Partners: We welcome those who feel led to support this mission in prayer.
Financial Support: To keep the Tamarisk House running, we need to raise $5,000 in monthly donations for essentials like rent, utilities, meals and resident experiences.
You’ve already been so generous, and we’re deeply grateful. As we step into this next chapter, would you consider a monthly donation, or sharing this campaign with others who might want to get involved? Every contribution helps us move closer to creating a home where these young people can find the stability and support they need.
